Two more of Brad Pitts children have applied to legally drop his surname.

The stars daughter Zahara, 21, and son Maddox, 24, are both seeking to remove Pitt from their legal names, according to court documents filed in California. They cited personal reasons for requesting the change.

This is the latest development in the high-profile breakdown of Pitts marriage to fellow A-lister Angelina Jolie. The former Hollywood power couple have been locked in disputes since they split a decade ago. They finally settled their divorce at the end of 2024 but continue to be embroiled in a legal battle over Chteau Miraval, the French winery they formerly owned together.

In paperwork submitted electronically to the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles last month, the actors daughter applied to change her name from Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt to Zahara Marley Jolie. Her brother Maddox also asked the court for permission to remove Pitt from his double-barreled family name at the end of May.

As required by law, the siblings subsequently both placed ads in the Los Angeles Daily Journal once a week for four consecutive weeks in June and July, giving anyone who objects to the possible change a chance to register their objection. If nobody does, a judge is likely to rule on the change to Maddoxs name in mid-September, while his sisters case will be decided at the end of the month.

Jolie and Pitt married in 2014 and filed for divorce in 2016. They share six children Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh and twins Knox and Vivienne.

In September 2016, the family flew to the United States from France on a private jet. In August 2022, details surrounding the circumstances of an incident during the flight emerged, when a heavily redacted FBI report, provided to CNN by a source at the time, revealed Jolie had accused Pitt of physically assaulting her and verbally abusing their children while they were onboard.

Pitt became the center of a probe related to the incident but was never arrested or charged, according to an FBI statement at the time.

Jolie filed for divorce shortly after the 2016 incident.

In an October 2022 countersuit to a legal case involving their winery, Jolie alleged that Pitt choked one of the children and struck another in the face during the incident. In response, a representative for Pitt told CNN in a statement at the time that, Brad has accepted responsibility for what he did but will not for things he didnt do.

Jolie, who had previously used the double-barreled surname, dropped Pitt from her name in 2019 after a court formally dissolved the marriage. Their daughter Vivienne reportedly used the name Vivienne Jolie in the playbill for The Outsiders, the Tony-winning musical she helped produce with her mom in 2024. The same year, Shiloh filed a petition to legally drop Pitt from her surname.

King Charles III hosted Prince Harry and met with his family for the first time in years Friday as they try to repair a rift that has persisted since his youngest son and wife quit royal life and moved to America six years ago.

Harry, Meghan, and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, met with the king and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House, a country estate west of London.

British tabloids and news broadcasts were filled with speculation about whether Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, would accompany him and, more importantly, whether they would bring their two children so they can finally get to know Grandpa Charles.

It had appeared those plans fizzled after a government committee denied Harry security protection for his family and Buckingham Palace withdrew and offer for the prince to stay there when it appeared he would come alone.

Harry's visit coincided with him losing his final lawsuit in his quest to tame the British tabloids.

A judge ruled that he failed to prove his privacy invasion claims against the publisher of the Daily Mail.

Bonnie Tyler, the gravelly voiced, Grammy-nominated Welsh pop star best known for singing the chart-topping power ballad Total Eclipse of the Heart in 1983 and seeing new generations succumb to its bombastic charms during solar and lunar eclipses, has died. She was 75.

Tyler died unexpectedly in a hospital in Portugal where she was being treated for an illness, her family said Thursday in a statement on her website. She was hospitalized in May in Faro, where she had a home, for emergency intestinal surgery and was later placed in an induced coma.

Bonnies family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for, her family said.

Tyler earned three Grammy nods, represented Britain at the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 where she came in 19th and was awarded an MBE for her services to music by Queen Elizabeth II in 2023, all largely thanks to Total Eclipse of the Heart, which has had more that 1 billion streams, boosted by real eclipses in 2017 and 2024.

The song spent four weeks at No. 1, the video has surpassed 1 billion views and when Stereogum reevaluated it in 2020, the music outlet declared it an extinction-level event rendered in musical form.

Its pop music as heart-pounding, chest-thumping, blood-gargling, heavens-falling passion explosion. Its sheer spectacle. Its fireworks and lasers and lightning and thunder. It soars and swoops and barrel-rolls, the site said.

The song has never really gone away, covered by the English singer Nicki French in 1995 and the band Westlife in 2006. Cate Blanchett sang it while hitting Billy Bob Thornton with her car in 2001s Bandits, it appeared at a wedding scene in 2003s Old School and One Direction sang it in 2010 on a U.K. version of The X Factor.

Early life

Tyler was born as Gaynor Hopkins a coal miners daughter in public housing with an outside toilet in Skewen, Wales, about seven miles outside Swansea. She grew up with three sisters and two brothers.

She adored the Beatles and her first album was A Hard Days Night. The first song she bought was Hippy Hippy Shake by the Swinging Blue Jeans at 13 and watched Top of the Pops religiously, according to her memoir, Straight From the Heart.

She would record Top of the Pops on a reel-to-reel two-track recorder and write down the lyrics of songs she loved. Her favorites were songs by Janis Joplin, Nina Simone, Tina Turner, Wilson Pickett and Otis Redding.

I used to sing them into my hairbrush for hours and hours, and thats how it all started for me. I fell in love with singing just from doing that. Looking back, even then my voice had a husky tone to it, but I didnt think much of it. I thought everyones voices were different from each others, she wrote.

In 1976 she had to have surgery to remove nodules on her throat, leaving her with that trademark vocal sound. Changing her name to Sherene Davis, she was fronting a soul band when she was discovered by talent scout Roger Bell, who brought her to London for demo sessions. Then she waited for a label until RCA said it was interested.

Under her new RCA-sanctioned name Bonnie Tyler, her debut album The World Starts Tonight in 1977 contained her first chart hit, Lost in France, and she was nominated for a breakthrough artists award at the Brits Awards. She then had a No. 3 hit in 1978 with Its a Heartache, but soon drifted. She then signed with Sony and saw Meat Loaf perform Bat Out of Hell on the BBC. Impressed, she requested to work with Meat Loaf songwriter and producer Jim Steinman.

Total Eclipse of the Heart

Steinman introduced her to his song Total Eclipse of the Heart, which would become the debut single for her fifth studio album, Faster Than the Speed of Night. He borrowed one of the songs lyrics Turn around, bright eyes from his 1969 musical The Dream Engine written as a student at Massachusetts Amherst College. He told her the song was from a prospective musical version of Nosferatu.

Jim liked to put down a basic rhythm track, do nine takes of the song, choose the best one and then put the kitchen sink on there, like Phil Spector used to, Tyler told The Guardian in 2023. He gave me a cassette to listen to in my hotel and we both preferred take two.

Featuring E Street Band members Roy Bittan on piano and Max Weinberg on drums, Total Eclipse is a rumination on lost love: Once upon a time there was light in my life/But now theres only love in the dark, she sings.

The video, a staple of early-days MTV, was shot in a frightening gothic former asylum in Surrey, where the guard dogs apparently wouldnt set foot in the rooms downstairs where they used to give people electric shock treatment. The visuals included slow-motion tossed doves, candles, dancing ninjas, dancing greasers, Tyler in frighteningly big shoulder pads, fencers, gymnasts, wind machines and shirtless boys wearing swim goggles being doused with water.

Faster Than the Speed of Night earned a Grammy nomination for best rock vocal performance losing to Pat Benatars Love Is a Battlefield and Tyler got another nod for Total Eclipse of the Heart in the best pop vocal performance category, losing to Irene Caras Flashdance What a Feeling.

After the Eclipse

Tyler never reached such dizzying heights again but stayed current with such movie soundtrack singles as Holding Out For a Hero from 1984s Footloose and Here She Comes from Metropolis also in 1984.

Her 2019 disc Between the Earth and the Stars featured duets with Rod Stewart, Cliff Richard and Status Quos Francis Rossi, and she ended that year performing a Vatican Christmas concert before Pope Francis.

In 2013, she switched gears to make a country-flavored record in Nashville, Rocks and Honey, which included the Vince Gill duet What You Need From Me and a little ballad called Believe in Me, written by American songwriter Desmond Child and British songwriters Lauren Christy and Christopher Braide. Believe in Me was picked to represent the United Kingdom at that years Eurovision Song Contest in Sweden.

It was an absolutely wonderful atmosphere there, she told the San Francisco Examiner in 2023. I was being interviewed every 15, 20 minutes, and when I walked out onstage behind the British flag, I thought the roof was going to come off! It was awesome, just awesome!

In 2017, she joined Joe Jonas band DNCE for a performance on the cruise ship Oasis of the Seas as part of a Total Eclipse Cruise. When the moon passed in front of the sun, they played Total Eclipse of the Heart.

Tyler was married to property developer and former Olympic judo competitor Robert Sullivan

This March, actress Brooke Shields made a reservation at a Mexican restaurant in Denver called Casa Bonita under a fake name but not to avoid paparazzi.

It was so the restaurants management team and owners Trey Parker and Matt Stone, who are also the creators of South Park, wouldnt know she was coming.

The place is so big it took a while for management to realize we were there, Shields told CNN. And then word got out because, you know, I didnt have a hat on and mustache or anything, she said.

She was there to deliver a letter asking for better wages for Casa Bonitas performers. The restaurant doesnt just serve Mexican cuisine; performers provide entertainment from breakfast to dinner. Cliff divers jump and twirl into a blue lagoon, puppeteers put on tableside shows and magicians make the rounds. The live entertainment is why so many people know Casa Bonita.

But in April 2024, for the first time, Casa Bonitas performers unionized, with about 80 of them represented by Actors Equity, led by Shields.

Shields said shes escalating after prolonged negotiations over not just pay, but fundamental safety issues.

It was slightly an ambush you try doing things respectfully, and then youre not met with equal respect so you have to resort to other tactics, said Shields, of her visit to Casa Bonita.

Since April of last year, Shields and Casa Bonita performers have been locked in negotiations with management. The group is asking for better protections for performers who say they got hypothermia and chlorine toxicity from the diving pool, as well as security for costumed performers who say they have been grabbed sexually by patrons. The group is also asking for a raise to bring them more in line with the servers, who they say make more. The union says its already made concessions at the bargaining table but with little offered in return to improve current conditions and wages.

Casa Bonitas management said in a statement to CNN that we value all of our team members and their well-being. As a policy we do not comment on ongoing labor negotiations.

Parker and Stone did not respond to repeated requests for comment.

Casa Bonita has been a Denver institution for more than 50 years. Set in a strip mall, it has a palatial bubblegum pink exterior with a jungle-esque interior.

Up to 3,500 patrons dine on Mexican cuisine daily, but a large part of the appeal is the show. Every 20 minutes, cliff divers, costumed characters, and magicians put on performances and interact with diners.

Five years ago, the restaurant was saved from the brink of bankruptcy and closure by Stone and Parker, the team who created South Park and the Broadway show Book of Mormon. Stone and Parker grew up in the Denver area and have been going to the restaurant since they were kids. They loved the restaurant so much that it was featured as the crux of a South Park episode in 2003, and they named their offices Casa Bonita, too.

You could see what this place was in the 70s when they built it. They were trying to make a little Disneyland here, Parker told NBCs The Today Show in 2023.

Parker and Stone have frequented the restaurant recently but have not attended one of the 14 bargaining sessions with Actors Equity, according to Shields. She says performers are paid between $21 and $26 an hour, about $10 per hour less than servers who also get tips and who were given a raise shortly after the restaurant reopened.

Shields and union performers tell CNN they lack protections, as there is no active shooter policy, no emergency action plan and no security for performers who interact with patrons.

And while the union has already made concessions on paid time off, holiday pay, extra pay, and wages, management has offered a less-than $1-an-hour wage increase, according to Shields.

Its just so disheartening because theyre putting their lives at risk, and theyre not being looked after, said Shields.

And, Shields says she has not heard from Parker and Stone.

Its just silence, radio silence, she said.

Alleged concussion, hypothermia, and sexual harassment

When Stone and Parker reopened Casa Bonita in the summer of 2023, diver Bethel Lindsley was brought in to build a squad of professionals. Lindsley, who both performs at Casa Bonita and oversees the dive team, is a former gymnast and circus performer with live water show experience on cruise lines like Royal Caribbean and The Han Show in China.

A native Denverite, Lindsley was drawn to the unique allure of Casa Bonita. But she also had concerns.

Its been a very long and challenging fight to get safety procedures at Casa Bonita in any meaningful form. When I first came in, the very first question I asked my management team was, whats the safety protocols for the dive team? And there were none, said Lindsley.

She says the divers at Casa Bonita are either Division 1 collegiate divers or have circus and water performance backgrounds.

Casa Bonitas dive set-up is unique. Performers dive from multiple cliffs as high as 16 feet into a small pool, 12.5 feet deep and 22.5 feet square. They dive solo and in tandem and are required to rock climb to exit the pool.

According to Lindsley, one diver suffered a concussion underwater after a dive. At one point, the pool temperature wasnt regulated properly, and she claims a diver got hypothermia. The team got chlorine toxicity because the chlorine pool levels werent getting checked regularly, she also said.

Some of her colleagues have quit. She says divers on her team are paid 35% less than industry standards.

Joshua Emerson is a part-time costumed character actor at Casa Bonita and makes $23 an hour. Three times a week, for four hours at a time, he dresses up as Moko the gorilla. He says he loves the character, and calls Parker and Stone heroes. Emerson is also a stand-up comedian who says the South Park duo inspired him to be a better writer.

When diners buy a ticket at Casa Bonita they are notified they cant touch performers at the venue, but there is no sign saying as much when patrons arrive on site, according to Emerson.

Ive been grabbed sexually 20-plus times since working there, Emerson said. He added that there is no security to protect performers, and perpetrators arent held accountable.

Its tough, cause like all I want to do is make people laugh and be entertained, and this process has made it difficult, he said.

Casa Bonita did not respond to CNNs questions regarding the specific accusations being made by performers.

In May, Parker and Stone appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and talked about Casa Bonita. They said they had hoped to pour $7 million to $8 million dollars into the restaurant venue, but instead its been closer to a $50 million renovation and upgrade.

It is going really well, and we think we might make our money back sometime, like 2040, 2045, Parker told Kimmel.

Were almost breaking even to this point, said Stone.

The performers say the restaurant is constantly packed and believe Parker and Stone have the money to increase wages.

The point of unionizing is to permanently fix and correct these problems for every single entertainment individual who is going to walk in and work for this company for however long it continues to stay open, which we hope its another 50 years, another 100 years, like, we want the business to succeed, said Lindsley.

Its personal

In the last year, Actors Equity has filed at least seven labor complaints against Casa Bonita with the National Labor Relations Board for retaliation and refusal to bargain.

For Shields, who oversees much larger negotiations between 51,000 Actors Equity members and groups like Broadway League, which represents Broadway shows, the Casa Bonita fight is small but personal.

It doesnt take long to feel how disparaging it is when you visit a place and you see young people excited to perform at the top of their game doing these crazy stunts, or entertaining people (and) you go personally see them not being cared for, said Shields.

Ive been on Broadway enough to know that its the ensemble, its the people that are there day in and day out that are really sort of the backbone of what we do.

Singer Camila Cabello, actors Hugh Grant, Ethan Hawke and Jason Sudeikis, and model Karlie Kloss were among those who arrived. Running back Kareem Hunt was among Kelce's Chiefs teammates in attendance. Seattle Seahawks receiver and recent Super Bowl champ Cooper Kupp, New York Giants receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, NFL announcer Joe Buck and Jenny Han, author of the "The Summer I Turned Pretty" series, also entered the arena.

In a culture obsessed with famous couplings it may be the apex celebrity wedding, with perhaps only royal unions getting more attention. Holding such a ceremony in a huge, iconic space that sits at the center of the U.S. media universe while keeping all the details secret made for a surreal scene, but it was a mix of hype and hush that is not out of character for Swift.

An Associated Press camera outside the arena showed a long line of black SUVs dropping off wedding-goers in tuxedos and evening gowns, surrounded by New Yorkers in shorts and Swifties amassing for the occasion.

There was a notable lack of social media posts from guests once they had entered the arena, after reports that phones would not be allowed.

A city permit obtained by the AP shows that the ceremony and its celebration could last until 4 a.m. Guests appeared as though they were coming to a big awards show, but their arrivals were obscured by tents and gazebos. There is a decent chance of rain hitting the area before the night is over.

Weddings have been a constant subject in Swift's songs since she was a teenager, and her actually walking the aisle for the first time at age 36 adds to the drama. It would also be a first marriage for the 36-year-old three-time Super Bowl champ Kelce, who could have been one of the jock characters in Swift's early hits.

Outside the arena, some frazzled tourists joked that it was a bad weekend to visit as they navigated strict road and sidewalk closures, but others appeared happy to sneak a peak at the spectacle. Police cut off most access where guests were being dropped off, but a few patrons gathered in nearby businesses and peered out windows.

Diana Warshavsky, who lives in New York, decided to head over to MSG on Friday to celebrate Swift and Kelce's wedding with fellow Swifties and "send her good vibes."

"We're relatively the same age, I'm a year older than her and I just got married this year as well," Warshavsky said. "I'm just so happy for her."

The relationship of the pop star and the football player has continued to thrill and fascinate millions around the world particularly the Swifties, the pop star's enormous and ardent fan base ever since the pair first started dating in 2023.

The weekend is jam-packed even by New York's standards. The city is celebrating the nation's 250th birthday, a parade of dozens of tall ships will sail the Hudson River, and a World Cup game is scheduled in New Jersey.

Earlier this week, Swift and Kelce donated $26 million to 20 local and national charities across the U.S. Many of the organizations were located in areas where the couple has deep ties, including Nashville, Tennessee; Los Angeles; Kansas City, Missouri; and New York.

The story of the first 250 years of America cannot be written without the story of American music. Blues, jazz, big band, folk and country, yes, but arguably no genre of music is more closely tied to the growth and evolution of this country than what is celebrated in Cleveland on a daily basis, Rock & Roll.

Much like the country it was born in, Rock and Roll was, in a word, rebellious. It challenged accepted norms. It didnt speak truth to power; it sang it and did so in a way that brought together people who were otherwise often diametrically opposed.

"Rock and Roll was really the first colorblind experience that people had," said longtime Rock and Roll manager David Spero. His father, Herman, created the Upbeat Show, which was syndicated to over 100 markets across the country. It was a show that brought together Black and white artists, dancers and audiences.

"It was like we don't care. Were doing this for the music," he said. "I dont care what he looks like or where he came from or where she was born. It just didnt matter if musically it worked."

Rock appealed to a primarily teen audience, the massive baby boom generation not tainted by decades of prejudice and more willing to look past outward differences and toward a shared appreciation of the music.

"Teenagers at that time played such an important role, maybe without even realizing it, in breaking down some of those barriers that existed," said John Goehrke, director of fan engagement at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. "Rock and Roll has been a foundational piece, I think, of our country's history; it's helped to create change, it's helped to create platforms for large movements, helped to give voice for people and for movements who otherwise didn't have one."

The early leader of this movement was Cleveland DJ Alan Freed, who coined the phrase Rock & Roll and brought together a diverse audience for what's been billed as the first-ever Rock concert, the Moondog Coronation Ball at the old Cleveland Arena.

"The moment that music would start, the audiences would come together," said Goehrke. "People across the region from the Midwest even to the East Coast were recognizing that Cleveland was a key hotbed for this new thing called Rock and Roll. So the Moondog Coronation Ball was an effort to actually put on a live show."

"Everybody that was in that thing, the biggest shock they had was when Alan Freed walked out, and he was white," said David Spero of the crowds that knew Freed only from the radio. "They always thought he was Black."

Freed would pave the way for other influential DJs, cementing Cleveland's growing reputation.

"The first show Elvis ever did north of the Mason-Dixon Line was at Brooklyn High School in Cleveland," said Spero. "He was brought here by Bill Randle, the disc jockey. He had the records and was freaking out and was like we gotta get this guy up here."

Through WMMS, Cleveland would serve as a launching pad for Rock icons like David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen and Rush.

"If we played something, you could go platinum," recalled Spero of the power of the radio station. "You could sell 1 million records in the Cleveland-Akron-Canton area, however far our listening area went. A million records. Led Zeppelin sold a million out of Cleveland."

And just like Rock and Roll was born from other forms of music, its DNA can be found across the musical spectrum. Heavy metal, Punk, Hip-Hop, Rap.

"I think Rock definitely changed the world more than any other kind of music," said Spero.

For the better part of the past century, Rock and Roll was not only the soundtrack for our nation's history but an actual player in it. A legacy celebrated permanently in the city where much of it began.

"It's been over 30 years, and we've welcomed almost 15 million visitors from all 50 states and 100 countries over that time," said the Rock Hall's John Goehrke. "All to celebrate and connect with that story of Rock and Roll."

Actor and activist Danny Glover, best known for starring as an easygoing police officer in the "Lethal Weapon" franchise, has revealed he has Alzheimer's disease.

The four-time Emmy Award nominee, who turns 80 on July 22, told "Today" and People magazine that he was diagnosed with the progressive, memory-destroying disease three years ago.

"I'm still not accepting in my mind all parts of it," he told People magazine. "There are the moments that you keep remembering that validate the fact that you can remember stuff. And there are moments I'll never forget."

More than 6 million people in the United States and millions more around the world have Alzheimer's, the most common form of dementia.

Glover earned four Emmy Award nominations and an honorary Oscar in 2022. Other awards came from the NAACP and Black Entertainment Television, and he received nominations from the Screen Actors Guild.

Glover also served as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Development Program from 1998 to 2004. It focuses on poverty, disease and economic development in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean.

Hollywood directors on Tuesday reached a four-year tentative contract agreement with studios and streaming services.

The deal struck between the Directors Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers came four weeks after talks began.

The talks were the first under new DGA President Christopher Nolan, who took the job in September.

Along with similar four-year deals longer than the industry three ratified in recent weeks by unions representing writers and actors, the DGA agreement adds to the likelihood of long-term labor peace despite many other industry upheavals.

Surveillance video reportedly showed Zimmerman appearing intoxicated throughout the afternoon.

He then allegedly swung a guitar and struck the ground twice, threw and pushed over other musical equipment, and spat toward a security officer.

Zimmerman canceled his concert that night, citing illness as the reason for doing so.

According to the affidavit, Sandia Resort and Casino had determined he and his staff needed to leave the property. Initially, Zimmerman refused to board the arranged transportation. There was a response from Sandia Police and he eventually was escorted off the premises.

In January, Zimmerman issued an apology for a separate performance in which he said he was too drunk to play.

"I decided to drink that day, which was a mistake, and I got up onstage and I was too drunk to play, and I sang awful, I played awful, nobody got the show that they wanted or paid for, and I'm disappointed in myself," he stated in the video.

Country music stars Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan are now being pulled into a lawsuit over the closed Nashville restaurant E3 Chophouse, which they co-owned with former MLB player Adam LaRoche.

The move comes after the restaurants operating company, Outlaws, LLC, was hit with a default judgment for $1,427,135.54 earlier this year for failing to pay rent and abandoning the property before the end of its lease term.

When Zimmerman left the stage area, the affidavit states he kicked a black box, spat toward a Sandia security officer, and threw a water bottle down a staircase. He also allegedly complained about the color of the SUV provided for his transportation and initially refused to get inside.

Zimmerman canceled his concert that night. According to the affidavit, Sandia Resort and Casino determined that he and his staff needed to leave the property. He initially refused to board the vehicles arranged to take him to the airport, prompting a response from Sandia Police. He eventually boarded a bus and was escorted off the premises.

On the same day, Zimmerman posted on Instagram, citing illness as the reason for canceling the show.

"Y'all know there's nothing I love more than getting out on the road and playing these shows for you, so it's so hard for me to have to say this, but I have to reschedule tonight's (5/27) and Saturday's (5/30) shows. I have not been feeling well and have tried to power through, but I'm not able to give you all the show you deserve," said Zimmerman in the post. "I hate letting y'all down and was really looking forward to these shows, but I gotta take care of myself so I can get back out there stronger."

"We will be announcing the rescheduled dates as soon as possible, and all tickets will be honored for the new dates."

The following day, May 28, Sandia housekeeping and security discovered damage to Zimmerman's hotel room. According to the affidavit, officers found a damaged TV, a broken phone, damage to a coffee table, damage to two chairs, two chairs missing from the room, a hole in the wall, damage to other walls, and several carpet stains.

The total damage was assessed at over $16,000.

Investigators also found that Zimmerman had charged more than $400 in alcohol to the room without paying the bill. The affidavit states that Sandia Resort and Casino staff and Sandia Police made multiple attempts to contact Zimmerman and his staff by phone and email with no response.

The arrest warrant, signed June 18, lists no bond and designates a no-bond hold. Zimmerman faces one count of criminal damage to property, a fourth-degree felony under New Mexico law, and one count of falsely obtaining services, a misdemeanor.

The Recording Academy has tweaked some of its rules for the 2026 Grammy Awards, including the addition of five new categories.

The academy on Tuesday announced the addition of a best Asian pop music performance category celebrating releases across K-pop, J-pop, C-pop and beyond awarded to the performer.

A new best traditional pop vocal performance category will be awarded to performers whose music "cannot properly be intermingled with present forms of pop music," according to a press release.

Also, a new best Latin song category will recognize songwriters for their work on Latin songs recorded predominantly in Spanish.

The other changes affect the R&B and folk categories. A new best R&B collaboration or duo/group performance award joins the reimagined best R&B solo performance category.

Folk has experienced a similar change that country experienced last year: Best folk album has become best contemporary folk album. A best traditional folk album category has been added.

In addition to the five new categories, changes have been made regarding the criteria of a few releases. Most noteworthy: alterations to the best new artist category.

The Grammys will now allow artists to submit in the category four times, up from three. That is in an attempt to better reflect the current music market, where it can take time for an artist to break through.

Tyra Banks has filed a defamation lawsuit against Netflix and the directors of its docuseries Reality Check: Inside America's Next Top Model, alleging that the producers stripped down hours of interview footage to construct a false narrative.

In the lawsuit filed Saturday in Los Angeles federal court, the model who created and hosted America's Next Top Model said she was interviewed for 3 hours, during which she took responsibility for some of the show's controversial decisions. Those interviews were edited down to 16 minutes and manipulated to support a false and defamatory narrative unrelated to what she actually expressed, the lawsuit said.

The accountability Ms. Banks took ended up on the cutting room floor. It was there, but viewers were never given the opportunity to see it, her lawyers wrote.

Banks is seeking damages in her lawsuit against Netflix, the directors Daniel Sivan and Mor Loushy and EverWonder Studio. Shes also seeking an injunction barring the use of her image in connection with the docuseries soundtrack, released as an album.

Emails seeking comments were sent Sunday to the defendants representatives.

America's Next Top Model launched in 2003 and ran for 24 seasons. In recent years, the reality competition series has undergone a critical reevaluation over accusations of body shaming, manipulation of contestants and problematic photoshoots. Banks has previously addressed those criticisms, acknowledging the insensitivity of past ANTM moments and some really off choices.

The lawsuit contends that the producers of the Netflix docuseries used selective editing, deliberate omission, and surgical manipulation of continuous footage to formulate a narrative that Banks allowed a contestant to be sexually assaulted on the show, used the contestant's trauma to drum up ratings and then couldn't remember it when asked during the interviews.

Defendants edited the Netflix Series to make it appear that Ms. Banks knew she was being asked about a sexual assault and was intentionally trying to evade the topic, the lawsuit stated, contending that Banks hadn't been told or asked about the assault during the interview.

Banks' lawyers wrote that she wasn't permitted to review the docuseries until a day before its Feb. 16 release. According to the lawsuit, she had not been contacted for fact-checking after her interviews, and was not given an opportunity to respond to accusations from other participants. Other judges from the show, including one her lawyers contend holds a grudge against Banks, consulted on the docuseries.

Had Ms. Banks known these individuals were so deeply involved in the formulation of the Netflix Series, also serving as consultants shaping the editorial direction, and that she had been excluded from such a role, it would have raised a red flag, the lawsuit read. She would have known she was being set up. She would not have participated.

Banks' lawyers reached out to Netflix in March to request access to the full footage of her interviews. Netflix and EverWonder denied that request, according to the lawsuit. Since the docuseries' release, public reaction has been swift, harsh, and directed squarely at Ms. Banks even SMiZE & DREAM, her ice cream shop in Sydney, Australia, has been subject to review bombing on Google, the lawsuit read.

The Associated Press sent an email seeking further detail from Banks lawyers and representatives on Sunday.

This lawsuit is that answer particularly after her efforts to resolve the matter directly with Netflix and the producers were refused.

Two helicopters collided over Rio de Janeiro on Sunday morning and crashed in the citys western zone, killing all six people aboard, firefighters said.

Rio de Janeiros Military Fire Department said that one of the helicopters crashed on the parking lot of a car dealership, where several electric vehicles were parked, igniting a fire that was extinguished.

Officials said an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the collision.

Police said that American singer and comedian Oliver Tree was on the list of passengers handed to aviation authorities, but have not been able to identify the bodies of those killed in the crash.

Tree performed in Buenos Aires, Argentina on June 4, and published a video on his Instagram Saturday where he is playing soccer in a Brazilian neighborhood.

Fernandes de Freitas, a tire repair worker, said he saw one of the helicopters in flames following the midair collision, and noticed that one of the passengers jumped out of the other aircraft, before it hit the ground. It was terrifying, absolutely horrifying, De Freitas said.

Steven Spielbergs Disclosure Day, billed as his first popcorn movie in years, launched with $44 million in domestic theaters, according to studio estimates Sunday.

Disclosure Day opened largely as expected, collecting $92.9 million worldwide over its first weekend. That was good enough to give the 79-year-old Spielberg, who conceived the film's story, his best opening weekend for an original movie, not accounting to inflation.

Of course, Spielberg is the father of the modern blockbuster. But Disclosure Day, released by Universal Pictures, is his first summer movie in 10 years. And it opened in a much different movie world than once greeted Jaws or Jurassic Park. Its closest competition was the indie horror hit Obsession, directed by a YouTuber-turned-filmmaker, Curry Barker, more than 50 years Spielbergs junior.

It played very, very evenly across all of the U.S. and Canada, said Jim Orr, distribution chief for Universal. It did not come across as a coastal big-market movie. It resonated with everybody.

Disclosure Day returns Spielberg to the subject of alien life. Emily Blunt, Josh OConnor and Colman Domingo star in a chase to reveal government evidence of UFO encounters. It cost $115 million to make.

While a good start, Disclosure Day like most original movies will depend on strong legs to be successful. Reviews (80% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes) have been strong, though audience response wasn't overwhelming. The movie landed a B CinemaScore.

It's off to a solid start, said Paul Dergarabedian, head of marketplace trends for Rentrak. Let's see how it plays in the coming weeks. If it holds like some of these other films have, like 'Project Hail Mary,' 'Michael,' Obsession,' it will be in good shape. Staying power has been the bread and butter of this year and this summer.

Having cost less than $1 million to make, Obsession ranks among the most profitable releases in recent memory. Focus acquired it for $15 million.

Last weekends top film, Scary Movie, slid to third place with $14.5 million. The Paramount Pictures release, the sixth entry in the horror spoof franchise, dropped steeply from its opening weekend, down 73%. But with a modest production budget of $30 million, the Miramax-produced sequel is already a considerable success. Its two-week domestic total is $88.6 million.

A24s Backrooms added $11.3 million domestically in its third weekend. It's rapidly grossed $262.3 million globally.

In its second weekend, Amazon MGMs Masters of the Universe fell fast following a disappointing launch. Its box office dropped 71% with $8.7 million. Its two-week domestic total stands at $46.7 million

Next weekend, The Walt Disney Co.'s Toy Story 5 opens with big expectations at the box office.

Taylor Swift became the youngest woman ever inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame Thursday night at age 36.

"It was instinctual. No one taught me how to do it," she said of songwriting through a raspy voice she attributed to screaming along to the night's performances and Wednesday night's historic NBA game between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs.

She told the room about her family uprooting their lives to move her from Pennsylvania to Nashville, Tennessee, as a tween.

"I will never be able to express my gratitude," the singer-songwriter said while holding back tears crediting their sacrifice for her career.

She offered young songwriters advice: "You really have to prioritize what you love, down to your very core. Because you'll need that."

Tamar Braxton opened the gala at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City with a spirited tribute to a new inductee the game-changing R&B songwriter, producer and rapper Christopher "Tricky" Stewart with one of the biggest songs he's known for: Beyonc's "Single Ladies."

He's also responsible for singer-songwriter Rihanna's "Umbrella," Mariah Carey's "Touch My Body" and Justin Bieber's "Baby."

Dallas Austin, a songwriter and producer known for work with Boyz ll Men and Madonna, introduced Stewart. "Think about that catalog," he said, listing off those zeitgeist-shifting records. "Those are cultural moments."

Stewart thanked God, his family, artists he's worked with and mentors giving a special shout out to Grammy award-winning music producer Antonio "L.A." Reid and the iconic singer-songwriter Babyface. "I wanted to be like L.A. and Baby," he reflected.

Kiss founders Simmons and Stanley two and a half years after the band's farewell were also recognized for their glam rock classics "Rock and Roll All Nite" and "I Love It Loud." The Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan covered the former, a fittingly fiery introduction for the band. He was joined by Goo Goo Dolls' frontman John Rzeznik for the latter.

Simmons wasn't present; Stanley said that he had a family emergency.

Acknowledging writers and their hits

Taylor Dayne and Madison Cunningham performed Tina Turner classics written by Terry Britten and Graham Lyle in honor of their induction; John Fogerty was honored with the Johnny Mercer Award.

"I got my songs back!" Fogerty said, ending a nearly 30-minute speech, referencing the fact that he won the rights back to his catalog at age 80. Then he ran through a medley of his hits: "Proud Mary," "Fortunate Son," and "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" among them.

The songwriter Walter Afanasieff (Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You") was also recognized, a segment that began with an introduction by actor Jeremy Renner and included a monster medley of his biggest songs by R&B singer Shela, kicking off with his Christmas classic six months early.

"I wanted to be The Beatles," he said of falling in love with songwriting in his speech. "Sixty years later, I got to produce Paul McCartney."

An established tradition

British singer-songwriter RAYE received the prestigious Hal David Starlight Award. She ended her speech by stating that songwriters deserve a cut of master royalties.

Last year's inductees included George Clinton, The Doobie Brothers, Ashley Gorley, Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins, The Beach Boys' Mike Love and Tony Macaulay.

The Songwriters Hall of Fame was established in 1969 to honor those creating popular music. A songwriter with a notable catalog of songs qualifies for induction 20 years after the first commercial release of a song.

X-Men actor Tyler Mane has revealed that he has a super rare form of breast cancer.

Mane, who appeared as Sabretooth in the 2000 movie, revealed in a post on Instagram that he has been diagnosed with the condition predominantly associated with women.

The 59-year-old former pro wrestler, who reprised the Sabretooth role in Deadpool & Wolverine in 2024, said he initially thought to keep his diagnosis a secret but eventually decided to speak out.

In a video posted on Instagram Tuesday, he said: I have some bad news: I start chemo today. One in 750 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime and Im one of them.

In the accompanying caption he described the condition as super rare, saying only 1% of breast cancers are (in) men, which explains why there is still stigma around it.

Rob Reiner's son Nick Reiner is seeking unpaid money from a trust his parents established for him, saying he needs it to help in his defense against charges that he killed them.

A petition filed by the 32-year-old Nick Reiner's civil attorneys in a Los Angeles County court on Monday says that trustees overseeing the funds have denied them to him without legal justification, and he needs and should get them now.

"Nick loved his parents, and he is devastated by their deaths. But the facts about what did and did not happen to them are not at issue in this Trust litigation," the petition says. "Like anyone accused of a crime, Nick is presumed innocent, and he is entitled to mount his defense with the resources that are lawfully his own."

The director and Hollywood luminary Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer and producer Michele Singer Reiner, were stabbed to death in their home in the upscale Brentwood section of Los Angeles on Dec. 14. Nick Reiner was arrested hours later and has since pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder.

Reiner retained high-profile private lawyer Alan Jackson to represent him, but less than a month later Jackson left the case for reasons he said he couldn't share. The new filing reveals that Reiner's siblings, Jake and Romy Reiner, had initially agreed to pay for Jackson, but reversed course.

In a declaration included with the petition, Jackson said "my firm stands ready, willing, and able to resume representation of Mr. Reiner" if the funds become available.

The filing says that apart from the larger Reiner family trust, which is not at issue, Rob and Michele Reiner established smaller individual trusts for Nick Reiner and his siblings. It says they left "unambiguous instructions" in Nick Reiner's trust, established in 1993, that he was to receive half its money when he turned 30 and the rest at 35.

But, the filing says, Reiner never received the funds he was entitled to at 30, and that the trustee overseeing them since February attorney Paul R. Kanin has given "a shifting series of excuses and justifications" to deny Reiner the money, including concerns about Reiner's competence that have no bearing on a payout that is mandatory.

Reiner says he should also get the money he was to receive at 35 immediately because his defense and his need for basic necessities in jail require it.

The petition says the trust has at least $1.5 million in assets, but that Kanin will not share the exact amount of its value.

Kanin did not immediately respond to an after-hours email seeking comment.

Proceedings in Reiner's murder case are moving slowly. He is scheduled to return to court for a pretrial hearing in September. He is eligible for the death penalty, but District Attorney Nathan Hochman has said his office has not yet decided whether to seek it.

Authorities have said nothing about possible motives, and leaks in the case have been virtually nonexistent on both sides. A court order has kept most details of the autopsy secret. Many of the most basic questions about the killing remain unanswered publicly.

On the day he left the case, Jackson, speaking outside court, declared adamantly that "pursuant to the laws of California, Nick Reiner is not guilty of murder."

In April, Jake Reiner gave his first detailed account of the experience of losing his parents and having his brother at the center of it, calling it "a living nightmare" that is "too devastating to comprehend."

Rob Reiner was a prolific director whose work included some of the most memorable and endlessly watchable movies of the 1980s and '90s. His credits included "This is Spinal Tap," "Stand By Me," "A Few Good Men," and "When Harry Met Sally ," during the production of which he met photographer Michele Singer. They wed soon after and were married for 36 years.

Stacey King, who played on three consecutive NBA championship teams with the Chicago Bulls from 1991-93 before returning to the organization as an Emmy-winning, fan-favorite broadcaster, has died. He was 59.

The Bulls announced that King died Sunday and said they were notified by a family member. No other details were immediately available.

"Stacey King was a cherished member of the Bulls family and one of the truly unique personalities in our organization's history," Bulls chairman Jerry Reinsdorf said in a statement. "His connection to Chicago, the Bulls and our fans spanned more than three decades first as a player and later as the unmistakable voice that helped bring Bulls basketball into the homes of generations of fans. We will miss him deeply and remember the joy, energy, humor, candor and passion he brought to our organization, our broadcasts and our fans every day. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones."

King began his NBA playing career with the Bulls, who selected the 6-foot-11 forward/center out of Oklahoma with the sixth overall pick in the 1989 draft. He averaged 6.6 points and 3.3 rebounds over his five seasons with the Bulls.

He played a total of eight seasons in the NBA during a career that also included stops in Minnesota, Miami, Boston and Dallas. King posted career averages of 6.4 points and 3.3 rebounds.

As a broadcaster, King endeared himself to a new generation of Bulls supporters. He spent more than two decades as a commentator on Bulls games.

"Stacey loved being a Bull," Bulls president and CEO Michael Reinsdorf said in a statement. "You could feel it in everything he did the way he played, the way he called games and the way he connected with our fans. He had a unique gift for bringing people together and making every game feel personal. He brought an energy and love for the game that came through in every broadcast, helping fans feel connected to our team. Whether it was through a broadcast, a conversation or a photo with a fan, Stacey made people feel seen and valued.

"We were fortunate to know him not only as a player and broadcaster, but as a friend. Stacey genuinely cared about people, and he made our organization better. We will miss him dearly, and his impact, memory and legacy will remain a part of the Chicago Bulls forever."

Chicago Sports Network president and CEO Michael McCarthy called King "one of the most beloved figures in Chicago sports."

"Stacey had a unique ability to connect generations of Bulls fans," McCarthy said. "Whether through his basketball insight, his humor, or his unforgettable calls, he made every game more enjoyable and every broadcast better."

King delighted fans with his memorable calls and nicknames. His enthusiasm was apparent every time the Bulls hit a big shot.

"We enjoy what we do," King said last month on his "Gimme the Hot Sauce" podcast, a reference to a comment he'd frequently make after big plays. "It's a fun job. It never seems like work for me. Every night, I go to work, win, lose or draw, I'm having fun."

Police have arrested the son of actor James Handy's girlfriend in connection with his death after he was found stabbed in the chest in Los Angeles, law enforcement said Thursday.

Officers responded to a home on Wednesday morning after a 911 caller said, "I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin," according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

They found the 81-year-old who appeared in films like "Jumanji" and "Top Gun: Maverick" in the front yard stabbed in the chest and unconscious, according to police. He was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead.

Michael Gledhill, 44, who is Handy's girlfriend's son and lives at the home with his mother, told officers that he was the person they were looking for, according to police.

Gledhill was booked on suspicion of one count of murder, according to police. His bail was set at $2 million, according to jail records.

It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney. Jail records did not show an attorney for him and messages left with the county public defender's office were not immediately returned.

Born in New York, Handy has been appearing in films and TV for decades and was known for his role as an exterminator in the 1995 film "Jumanji" and more recently as the bartender Jimmy in the 2022 film "Top Gun: Maverick," according to IMDB. He's also appeared in some of the top TV crime dramas, including "NCIS: Los Angeles," "The Closer" and "Cold Case."

"I could not have asked for a more talented, humble or gracious client and friend than James Handy," Pam Ellis-Evenas, from the Ellis Talent Group, said in an email to The Associated Press.

An art museum in France has filed a legal complaint after a banana that makes up part of Italian artist Maurizio Cattelans controversial artwork Comedian was stolen.

The theft was reported by a security guard at the Centre Pompidou-Metz in the city of Metz, eastern France, on Saturday, according to a statement from the museum published the same day.

The gallery has filed a complaint with the relevant authorities against persons unknown, it said in the statement.

The theft undermines the respect due to the works on display and temporarily deprives visitors of part of the experience offered by the exhibition, it added.

It noted, however, that the perishable component of the work has been replaced, and the work has been restored to its original presentation as quickly as possible.

This is not the first incident involving Comedian, which comprises a fresh banana taped to a wall.

In 2019, when Cattelan unveiled the work at the Art Basel Miami art fair in Florida, performance artist David Datuna grabbed the banana from the wall, before peeling and eating it in front of hundreds of stunned fair attendees.

Then, in 2023, an art student took the banana from a wall at the Leeum Museum of Art in Seoul, South Korea, and ate it.

And in November 2024, Justin Sun, a Chinese collector and founder of a cryptocurrency platform, acquired Comedian for $6.24 million at auction before eating the banana.

Then, in July 2025, the banana was eaten by a gallery-goer at the Centre Pompidou-Metz.

Comedian is intended to demonstrate the absurdity of financial speculation and the fragility of knowledge systems that underpin the art market, the museum said in a statement at the time.

Cattelan is known for satirical pieces that challenge popular culture, often provoking debates around conceptual art.

Another one of Cattelans viral artworks was a solid 18-carat-gold toilet entitled America, valued at around $6 million. It was first installed at New Yorks Guggenheim in 2016 and was open to use by visitors.

In 2019, it was stolen from Blenheim Palace in England the birthplace of Winston Churchill where it was being exhibited. It has never been found.

Actor Shia LaBeouf pleaded guilty Wednesday to three counts of simple battery and was sentenced to probation for punching people outside a New Orleans bar during Mardi Gras in February.

LaBeouf will also be required to attend an alcohol treatment program under the sentence handed down by an Orleans Parish judge, according to Sarah Chervinsky, an attorney for the actor.

LeBeouf, most widely known for his starring roles in 2007s Transformers and in 2008s Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull, had been released on bail following his arrest near the city's historic French Quarter. Video of the Feb. 17 encounter shows a shirtless LaBeouf outside a bar shoving one person to the ground and hitting another person in the face, causing his nose to possibly dislocate, according to a New Orleans police report.

Orleans Parish Judge Juana Marine-Lombard handed the actor a six month suspended sentence and two years of probation. LaBeouf was also ordered to stay away from the three victims and the bar.

Mr. LaBeouf came to court today wanting to take accountability for his part in what happened, and he has done so, Chervinsky said. Now hes looking forward to focusing on family, work, and new creative projects.

Jeffrey Damnit, a local entertainer whom police identified as Jeffrey Klein in the incident report, said he was one of the people attacked by LaBeouf. He has said LaBeouf had pushed him from behind at the bar earlier in the night, shouting homophobic slurs and threatening his life.

Chervinsky called it a minor Mardi Gras bar tussle and said there was no evidence it was about bias or prejudice.

Damnit's attorney said his client hopes LaBeouf's behavior improves after undergoing substance abuse treatment.

"In New Orleans we are all equal, we should all feel safe, and we dont treat people different based upon relative fame, attorney Michael Kennedy said.

After LaBeouf was charged in February, a judge ordered him to return to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

LaBeouf has had several run-ins with the law during his career, including a 2017 New York City arrest on suspicion of assault that happened during a livestream.

While on location in Georgia filming The Peanut Butter Falcon later that year, he was arrested for public drunkenness and accused of disorderly conduct and obstruction and sentenced to probation.

In 2020, he was charged with misdemeanor battery and petty theft in Los Angeles.

That year, the English singer and actor FKA Twigs, whose legal name is Tahliah Barnett, also filed a lawsuit alleging LaBeouf was physically and emotionally abusive to her during their relationship, which they settled in July.

The actor first gained acclaim as a child for his role on the Disney Channel series Even Stevens, and worked steadily into adulthood.

Peabo Bryson, the two-time Grammy Award-winning R&B singer best known as the voice behind the Oscar-winning Disney film duets Beauty and the Beast with Celine Dion and A Whole New World with Regina Belle from Aladdin," has died. He was 75.

His family said in a statement that Bryson died Tuesday, days after having a stroke.

Young audiences turned out in droves to movie theaters around the country this weekend.

It wasn't for the big budget "Star Wars" movie, "The Mandalorian and Grogu, " which fell sharply in its second weekend, however, but for a small budget horror from a 20-year-old first-time filmmaker that began on the internet.

"Backrooms," released by A24 in 3,442 locations in the U.S. and Canada, made an astonishing $81.5 million in its first three days in theaters, according to studio estimates on Sunday.

That's just a few hundred thousand dollars shy of what "The Mandalorian and Grogu" earned in its first three days last weekend; And "Backrooms," which was directed and co-written by YouTube creator Kane Parsons, cost only $10 million to produce.

The wild success of "Backrooms" didn't even hurt "Obsession," which is also the directorial debut of a YouTuber, Curry Barker, who is only 26. Three weekends in, "Obsession," a movie that cost less than $1 million to make, still hasn't dropped below its opening weekend earnings.

This weekend, it was up 10% with another $26.4 million for a second-place finish, leaving Star Wars, the legacy franchise movie from the veteran filmmaker and the Walt Disney Studios, in third with $25 million.

YouTube might not be the death of movie theaters after all. If this weekend is any indication, it could be the industry's new great hope.

This is a weekend where theaters also hosted the debuts of "The Breadwinner," a PG-rated family comedy starring the popular comedian Nate Bargatze, and "Pressure," a solid World War II drama about the tense 72 hours before D-Day with Oscar-winner Brendan Fraser. But it was the 20-something YouTubers that drew the most crowds. And both "Backrooms" and "Obsession" were produced by Blumhouse-Atomic Monster.

Abhijay Prakash, the president of Blumhouse-Atomic Monster said that the weekend is both staggering and validation of their business, which has from the beginning championed original horror movies that appeal to younger audiences, and generated over $10 billion in box office to date.

He noted that they've made a point of looking for up and coming talent on YouTube and, knowing how Hollywood works, this weekend likely inspire a wave of copycats. But beyond that, he's encouraged by the fact that the young creators who've already had enormous success online still value the cultural currency of theatrical movies.

"It's a great sign of relevance for us," Prakash said. "With some distance, we'll probably look back at this as a real turning point."

"Backrooms" started as a creepypasta an internet-generated urban legend before Parsons turned the concept, about a never-ending expanse of dull, depressing rooms and hallways, into a viral web series, which he made with the help of the open-source 3D graphics software Blender. It caught the attention of James Wan and Shawn Levy's production companies who were interested in taking it to the next level; Soon a movie was in development with Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve starring.

It wasn't just a domestic hit either; Including international showings, "Backrooms" has already made $118 million globally. A24 said Parsons is now the youngest director to have a No. 1 film globally. It's also a record opening for the studio, whose previous high-water mark was "Civil War," which opened to $25.5 million in 2024.

The R-rated film was well-reviewed by critics and drew a young and diverse crowd to theaters. According to exit polls, 86% of the audience was under 35, more than half were under 25 and 44% were under 21. Many attended in groups and there were reports of sold-out shows, packed theaters and repeat viewings. Audiences gave it a less-than-stellar B- CinemaScore, however.

But the buzz is still creating a frenzy of all ages, even teenagers, wanting to see "Backrooms." Some theaters have even posted employees outside of the screens to make sure that anyone under 21 is accompanied by an adult. The same is true for the R-rated "Obsession," which has now made $104.7 million in North America, and is now Focus Features' highest grossing domestic release.

Luis Olloqui, the CEO of Cinpolis USA, which operates 26 theaters across the country most of which are dine-in said they've seen sellouts at many of their locations for both movies.

"We were a little worried that they would be competing for the same audience. It's not the case," Olloqui said. "It shows that when we have the right content, people from all ages are willing to go to the theater."

"The Mandalorian and Grogu," meanwhile, fell around 69% from its opening last weekend. The movie has now made $246.6 million globally.

"Michael" landed in fourth place with $11.7 million in its sixth weekend the musical biopic has made $339.9 million domestically to date. "The Breadwinner," released by Sony, rounded out the top five with an estimated $7.5 million. "Pressure" opened in seventh place with $5.8 million.

Outside of the top 10 was the heist-romance "Tuner," which expanded to 452 theaters in its second weekend, earning a solid $1.7 million.

"Everyone's asking what's the next big thing in Hollywood for movies, and what can bring people back to the movie theater? And this may be it," said Paul Dergarabedian, the head of marketplace trends for Comscore.

Top 10 movies by domestic box office

With final domestic figures being released Monday, this list factors in estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Comscore:

1. "Backrooms," $81.5 million.

2. "Obsession," $26.4 million.

3. "Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu," $25 million.

4. "Michael," $11.7 million.

5. "The Breadwinner," $7.5 million.

6. "The Devil Wears Prada 2," $5.9 million.

9. "Passenger," $2.6 million.

A day after the President Donald Trump-affiliated Freedom 250 announced the "first wave" of performers for "The Great American State Fair" shows on Washington's National Mall in June and July, the lineup has been hit with a wave of cancellations. Young MC, Morris Day, the Commodores and Martina McBride are among the scheduled acts who have said they will not be appearing.

Scheduled performers also include Milli Vanilli, the pop duo from the 1980s who were discredited after it was revealed that their frontmen, Rob Pilatus and Fab Morvan, were only lip-syncing.

Milli Vanilli won a Grammy in 1990 for Best New Artist, but the award was rescinded after the scandal broke. Pilatus died in 1998, while Morvan has attempted a solo career and published a memoir, "You Know It's True: The Real Story of Milli Vanilli."

Morvan recently told The Guardian newspaper that he owns the Milli Vanilli name, and he said in a statement Thursday that he would be performing at the Great American State Fair.

A Freedom 250 spokesperson did not immediately respond Thursday to a request for comment. Freedom 250, which Trump launched late last year, describes itself as a "national, non-partisan organization leading the celebration of our Nation's 250th birthday." Trump appointed Keith Krach, who served as an under secretary of state during his first term, as the organization's CEO.

Trump and his supporters have long had a contentious relationship with the music community. Celine Dion, Elton John and Guns 'N Roses are among the many artists who have objected to their music being played at Trump rallies.

Country singer McBride wrote Thursday on social media that she had agreed to perform after she "was assured this was a nonpartisan event."

"Yesterday things started changing and what we were told is, in fact, not what is happening," she said.

In an Instagram post, Young MC questioned whether the National Mall shows would be nonpartisan. "The artists were never told about any political involvement with the event," he wrote, adding that he hoped to "perform in D.C. in the near future at an event that is not so politically charged."

Day posted on Instagram, "Contrary to rumor, Morris Day & The Time will not be performing at the 'GREAT AMERICAN STATE FAIR."

McBride was scheduled for June 25. Young MC and Milli Vanilli were among those on the roster for an "I Love the '90s" concert on June 26. Day was listed for June 27. Other performers announced include Flo Rida and Bret Michaels. The Great American State Fair is scheduled to run June 25-July 10.

At least one "I Love the 90s" act will be there: Vanilla Ice.

"He is proud to help celebrate America's 250th Anniversary!" a representative for the "Ice Ice Baby" rapper wrote in an email to the AP. "Everyone is welcome to attend and celebrate USA's Birthday and our Freedom!"

It was a spelling bee that ended in spectacular, spell-off fashion. Shrey Parikh, a 14-year-old, from Rancho Cucamonga, California, was named the 2026 Scripps National Spelling Bee Champion.

In the moments after he held the championship trophy over his head for the first time, he felt a mix of emotions.

I feel so, so, so happy, and just kind of relieved that this long, this long Bee is over because it's been really stressful for me, said Parikh.

Parikh was a finalist in 2024, but he missed the national stage last year after missing a word during his school bee, something that almost made him give up spelling altogether.

"At my school bee last year, it was, I was really dejected and just very upset. It didn't even sink in until the next day, and I had a really tough time, but I'm glad I was able to bounce back, he said.

To get back in the swing, hes been studying as much as five hours every day, as well as working with coaches. By the time he made it to the finals Thursday night, he was really feeling the pressure.

I was so nervous for every word, but I just reminded myself that I needed to trust my instincts, he said. But he said the moment he hears his word, the nerves melt away. Once I get the word, I'm not really nervous anymore, because then it's all in my control. Before I get the word, it's just like, what word am I gonna get?

And even though he knew a spell-off was possible, he was not excited about it.

I kind of accepted the fact that there was going to be a spell off, and I calmed my mind, I got some water earlier before the spell off, and I just tried to take it all in stride and do the best I could, he said.

In just 90 seconds, Shrey spelled 32 words correctly, more than any previous spell-off winner.

In the spell-off, the final two competitors had 90 seconds to correctly spell as many words as possible. Parikh spelled 32 words correctly in the rapid-fire round, while runner-up Ishaan Gupta spelled 25.

The 14-year-old from Rancho Cucamonga, California, earned $52,500, the coveted Scripps Cup and a Merriam-Webster reference library.

This was not Parikh's first trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee. He tied for 89th place in 2022 and finished tied for third in 2024.

This year's Scripps National Spelling Bee featured 247 spellers ranging in age from 9 to 15.

The competition was held at Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C., for the first time in 15 years.
