The National Hurricane Center said that the Atlantic basin's first named storm of the season has made landfall along the Gulf Coast.
Tropical Storm Arthur was named on Wednesday morning, as it became a minimal tropical storm. It made landfall on the Upper Texas coast with top sustained winds around 40 mph. The National Hurricane Center issued tropical storm warnings along the Texas and Louisiana Gulf Coast.
Although not a strong storm, it is forecast to drop 5 to 10 inches of rain and cause flooding in low-lying areas of Louisiana and Texas. Numerous flood watches were also issued for the region. Although Arthur is no longer a tropical storm, it continued to cause significant rain along the Gulf Coas.
The National Hurricane Center said the risk of flash flooding would extend from the middle Texas coast through parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and the Florida panhandle.
