CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. — A Homosassa man was arrested on drug charges Friday after the Florida Highway Patrol said more than 18 pounds of marijuana was found in his vehicle.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a trooper saw Artha Hopkins, 27, of Homosassa, driving on State Road 589 with illegal window tint and pulled his Mercedes SUV over for a traffic stop.
FHP said after inspecting the car, the trooper found more than 18.5 pounds of marijuana and a concealed 40mm Glock handgun inside the car.
Hopkins was arrested for drug and weapons charges and booked into the Citrus County Jail.
“You know, it might just be time we take a look if HOAs are really even necessary.
Maybe we should just do away with homeowner associations as a whole.”
South Florida lawmaker Rep. Juan Carlos Porras (R-Miami) says it may be time to do away with homeowners associations altogether, as more Floridians speak out about rising fees, costly lawsuits, and even arrests tied to HOA disputes. He said this week that he is considering filing legislation in the next session that would abolish HOAs statewide.
