TAMPA, Fla. — The Tampa Police Department made an arrest in a shooting that killed a man Thursday afternoon.
Just before 3:45 p.m. on Nov. 21, authorities arrived at 1000 Century Park Drive after receiving a report of a shooting, TPD said. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots and seeing the suspect, Derrick Smith, 30, allegedly shot the victim multiple times.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Police said that the victim did not have a weapon, and they do not believe he got any closer than three feet to Smith before he shot him.
TPD said the two men knew each other from working post-hurricane cleanup together.
The motive of the shooting remains under investigation.
Smith was arrested and charged with murder.
