HAINES CITY, Fla. — Two people were found fatally shot inside a Haines City home on Saturday after a family member called police over concerns.

According to the Haines City Police Department (HCPD) report, at about 9:51 p.m., officers received a 911 call from someone stating they were contacted by their brother, who was at his home with his significant other and was making suicidal statements.

When officers arrived on the scene, a single gunshot was heard coming from the home.

Officers made forced entry into the home and located a dead man, 34, and a woman, 33, on the second story, both with apparent gunshot wounds. Several children lived at the home, two of which the couple shared, but none were present when police arrived.

HCPD said it appeared that the couple was experiencing challenges in their relationship, which led to their passing.

Chief Greg Goreck said, "This is the second time in less than a year that our community has been devastated by a domestic violence situation, leaving innocent children without their parents. We want everyone to know that there are resources available and domestic violence situations do not have to be faced alone. We owe it to each other, and especially to our children to provide support, raise awareness, and work towards breaking this vicious cycle.”
