TAMPA, Fla. — When you think of College HUNKS, you may picture your local mover, but Roman Cowan explained their purpose is much bigger.

"Our purpose is actually to move the world, and that means making a lasting, positive, emotional impact on the people we come across," said Cowan, President of the company.

College HUNKS packs 5,000 meals in Tampa for families in need

On Thursday, team members packed 5,000 meals for those in need.

In 2017, College HUNKS pledged to donate two meals for every job completed through a national partnership with the non-profit, US Hunger.

Cowan, originally from Jamaica, said this initiative hits home.

"I was born and raised in pretty humble conditions," said Cowan. "I grew up with no electricity, no running water, and at times, it was difficult to secure a meal on a consistent basis."

College HUNKS also marked a major milestone: more than six million meals donated nationwide.

"These meals today will be staying local to Tampa Bay," said Sarah Aranguibel, the Chief of Staff with US Hunger.

Aranguibel said one bag of food provides six meal servings, noting that some families are one emergency away from being unable to afford dinner.

"That could be dinner for a family one day where they might not know where that meal comes from," said Aranguibel. "So what we're doing today, rolling up our sleeves, coming together, it means that someone has a healthy meal on the table at night."
