TAMPA, Fla. — Waymo announced it will be welcoming public riders in Tampa starting Tuesday.
The company said it will welcome the first public riders in Denver, San Diego, and Tampa starting Sept. 1.
"With thousands of residents already signed up, we’re inviting new riders on a rolling basis to ensure a seamless experience as we scale," said Waymo.
The company's press release included a quote from Mayor Jane Castor.
“Tampa’s innovative spirit continues to draw companies that are on the forefront of technology to our city,” said Castor. “Waymo’s launch in Tampa provides another effective – and exciting – way to get around, helping us in our goal to strengthen our transportation network and provide options for every preference or need.”

Back in November, Tampa Fire Rescue welcomed members from Waymo to its training facility to witness the company's autonomous vehicle ahead of the self-driving service coming to the city.
Tampa Bay 28's Blake Phillips asked travelers about their thoughts on the upcoming service back in November.
Waymo said its autonomous vehicles will operate across multiple Tampa neighborhoods, including areas from Sweetwater Creek and Del Rio to West Shore and Palmetto Beach.
