RIVERVIEW, Fla. — The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting that happened Tuesday, April 8, around 3:08 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 301 and Balm Riverview Road.
Deputies say they responded to reports of a shooting and found a man with at least one gunshot wound to the upper body. The victim was quickly taken to a local hospital but died shortly after arrival.
Officials say the shooter remained at the scene and is cooperating with detectives. The Public Affairs Office is holding off on naming the victim until the next of kin has been notified. Detectives are also conferring with the State Attorney’s Office regarding the details of the investigation.
The incident caused a major traffic backup on U.S. Highway 301 Tuesday afternoon, as indicated by FDOT cameras.
