ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — One person has died after a Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority bus hit a pedestrian on an electric scooter late Tuesday morning.

Around 11:12 a.m. on Oct. 15, police said Deanna Leigh Grayston, 53, was driving a PSTA bus with 10 passengers onboard and heading westbound near the Pinellas Trail.

A pedestrian activated the trail crosswalk signal on 22nd Avenue North and started to cross. At the same time, a second pedestrian, a 65-year-old man on a motorized scooter, also attempted to cross.

Investigators said the PSTA bus failed to yield to pedestrian traffic at the trail crosswalk. The victim was transported to St. Petersburg Hospital - HCA Florida Healthcare, where he died from his injuries.

The PSTA bus, driven by Deanna Leigh Grayston, 53, was carrying ten passengers when it was involved in an accident. No one on the bus was injured in the accident.

The e-scooter driver's name has not been released.

“You know, it might just be time we take a look if HOAs are really even necessary.
Maybe we should just do away with homeowner associations as a whole.”

South Florida lawmaker Rep. Juan Carlos Porras (R-Miami) says it may be time to do away with homeowners associations altogether, as more Floridians speak out about rising fees, costly lawsuits, and even arrests tied to HOA disputes. He said this week that he is considering filing legislation in the next session that would abolish HOAs statewide.
