ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A crane collapsed during high winds in Downtown St. Petersburg on Wednesday night.
The crane was at the 400 Central building construction site, according to the City of St. Petersburg.
Red Apple Real Estate, the developers of condominium complex The Residences at 400 Central, said it hit the corner of a neighboring unoccupied office building on First Avenue South.
No injuries have been reported.
Officials are urging residents to continue sheltering in place and to avoid the area surrounding 400 Central Avenue.
Officials with the development team and the City of St. Petersburg said they are inspecting the area to determine the next steps with the debris on the ground.
“The 400 Central building is in good condition, but we are conducting further inspections,” John Catsimatidis Sr., founder of Red Apple Real Estate, said. “We expect work on the building to recommence as soon as possible.”
