PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — A man was taken to a local hospital and is in critical condition after he was rescued from the water on Clearwater Beach Tuesday.
Clearwater Police and Clearwater Fire & Rescue responded to a water rescue call late Tuesday afternoon behind Continental Towers, located at 675 S. Gulfview Blvd. on Clearwater Beach.
A man's wife was swimming behind Continental Towers when she began having trouble in the water. Officials said the husband, a 69-year-old man, began having difficulties himself once in the water.
A bystander later pulled the Miami couple from the water, according to officials.
Clearwater Fire medics treated the husband, who was then taken to Morton Plant Hospital. He remains in critical condition.
“You know, it might just be time we take a look if HOAs are really even necessary.
Maybe we should just do away with homeowner associations as a whole.”
South Florida lawmaker Rep. Juan Carlos Porras (R-Miami) says it may be time to do away with homeowners associations altogether, as more Floridians speak out about rising fees, costly lawsuits, and even arrests tied to HOA disputes. He said this week that he is considering filing legislation in the next session that would abolish HOAs statewide.
