POLK COUNTY, Fla. — A fire destroyed a home in Lakeland on Sunday morning, according to Polk County Fire Rescue (PCFR).
Firefighters received the call about the fire at 5:57 a.m. at 8706 Fort Socrum Village Place.
When they arrived on the scene at 6:05 a.m., firefighters encountered a home that was fully engulfed in flames, according to PCFR officials.
The fire was extinguished, but the house was deemed a total loss, officials said.
Nobody was reportedly injured.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office was notified to investigate. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
“You know, it might just be time we take a look if HOAs are really even necessary.
Maybe we should just do away with homeowner associations as a whole.”
South Florida lawmaker Rep. Juan Carlos Porras (R-Miami) says it may be time to do away with homeowners associations altogether, as more Floridians speak out about rising fees, costly lawsuits, and even arrests tied to HOA disputes. He said this week that he is considering filing legislation in the next session that would abolish HOAs statewide.
