TAMPA, Fla — A tip about a potential shooter at Newsome High School led to a search of the school Friday afternoon.

Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said they got a tip on Fortify Florida about the potential shooter at Newsome High School in Lithia around 8:45 a.m. Friday.

HCSO said that students were not permitted to leave the campus, and parents could not pick up the students.

Deputies have searched the campus, including students, staff, and bags. They did not find a firearm at the school or any credible threat, according to HCSO.

"The turmoil and trauma experienced today by these students, staff, and parents is unimaginable, and no community should ever have to endure such fear and uncertainty," said Sheriff Chad Chronister.

A Tampa mother's cell phone video from a Halloween morning two years ago still captures the panic she felt watching her 1½-year-old daughter trapped inside a Tesla Model 3 — unable to get out.
