TAMPA, Fla. — The University of South Florida’s Tampa campus is welcoming thousands of students this week as they move into their dorms and prepare for the start of a new school year.

About 6,500 students are moving into campus housing. Students began arriving around 9 a.m. Thursday, some traveling from across Florida and others from states including Ohio and New Jersey.

For many students, move-in day was about more than unloading boxes. It was the first step toward making their new dorm feel like home.

Sofia Cseplo, who is from Ohio, said she already had a color scheme in mind for her new space.

“I have light pink and gray as my color theme,” said Cseplo.

Despite the Florida heat, parents, friends, and USF staff members helped students carry boxes, assemble belongings and get settled into their rooms.

For students, move-in day also marks the beginning of a new chapter as they prepare to start classes and pursue their careers.

“I was in this program called 3DE where I worked with businesses and I was put on marketing,” Roque said.

Now, Roque and thousands of other students will spend the weekend getting settled before classes begin Monday.

USF President Moez Limayem said the university is focused on helping students succeed both inside and outside the classroom.

“Your success is our priority. We will make sure you have great educational experience job start your business or go to graduate school,” said Limayem.
