HAINES CITY, Fla. — Haine City leaders are recognizing a UPS driver for his quick thinking during a routine delivery.
Last Wednesday began like any other day for Joseph Perez as the UPS driver made dozens of deliveries around the Haines City area, but while in the middle of his busy shift, that all changed.

"I do the delivery and as I'm coming back to the vehicle, she waves me down and asked me to help her. She proceeds to tell me that her 2-year-old grandson and 6-month-old granddaughter are locked in the house," said Perez.
The woman said that while she went to throw out the garbage, the 2-year-old locked her out of the house. She left her cell phone inside the house, so she had no way to call for help.
"I wasn't even delivering to her house. I was delivering to her neighbor. It just so happened to be the right time, right place. I have a 2-year-old as well, so when she told me that it was a 2-year-old and a 6-month-old, I immediately reacted," Perez said.
Not knowing how long the children had been alone in the house, Perez jumped into action, while waiting for the police to arrive.
